Wetlands launch new Storytime session for Winter school holidays

Do your kids love having stories read to them?

Better literacy skills and better communication and social skills are just a few of the gains when kids and adults read together, not to mention the benefits kids get from spending more time outdoors in nature.

This school holidays, we are combining books and the outdoors with our newest program: Storytime at the Wetlands.

Our Rangers will be sharing some beautiful Australian picture books while taking you and your kids for a wander through the wetlands. There will also be games and wetland themed crafts.

Storytime at the Wetlands will run on Fridays during the school holidays and is aimed at 2 to 7 year olds. The events are pram and wheelchair friendly.

Kids will need sturdy shoes, warm jackets, a water bottle and a snack, and an adult with them. (One free adult with each child.  An additional ticket is required per extra adult.)

The popular Wetland Treasures returns for the winter school holidays, with sessions running on Wednesdays. Join a Ranger for a playful walk through the wetlands and meet Tucker the Turtle. This tour suits the under 7’s and a healthy fruit snack is provided, with tea and coffee for the grown ups.

On Thursdays we’ll be running Bush and Waterbug detectives, where anyone from 5 to 13 can learn about the animals, birds and bugs living at the wetlands. In the education centre kids can use a microscope to identify waterbugs, and even have a go at catching some!

Our popular Art workshops are back with Mariana del Castillo teaching kids how to make a Platypus or a Snipe. Learn to use paint, natural dyes from leaves, cardboard and fabric while learning about these two important creatures.

Take advantage of having no school in the morning to go on our exciting Arachnid adventures by Twilight and discover the fantastic world of spiders with our Spider ranger. Trek into the night to see how many different types you can find, and you’ll also get to meet some members of our guide’s collection. Tours will run both Mondays of the school holidays.
