It is well known the huge benefits this can have for their development.
Better literacy skills and better communication and social skills are just a few of the gains that happen when kids and adults read together.
Evidence is also surfacing on the gains kids get from spending more time outdoors, in nature.
This school holidays we are combining books and the outdoors with our newest program Storytime at the Wetlands.
Our Rangers will be sharing some beautiful Australian picture books, while taking you and your kids for a wander through the wetlands.
There will be games and wetland themed craft as part of the morning, which will run on Fridays during the school holidays.
This event is for 2 to 7 year olds, and is pram and wheelchair friendly.
Kids will need sturdy shoes, warm jackets, a water bottle and a snack, and an adult with them. (One free adult with each paying child, extra adults will need a ticket.)
The popular Wetland Treasures returns for the winter school holidays, with sessions running on Wednesdays. Join a Ranger for a playful walk through the wetlands and meet Tucker the Turtle. This tour suits the under 7’s, and a healthy fruit snack is provided with tea and coffee for the grown ups.
On Thursdays we’ll be running Bush and Waterbug detectives, a fantastic way for your 5 to 13 year old to learn what animals, birds and bugs live at the wetlands. In the education centre kids will be able to use a microscope to identify waterbugs and have a go at catching some!
Our popular Art workshops are back with Mariana del Castillo teaching kids how to make a Platypus or a Snipe. Learn how to use different mediums such as paint, natural dyes from leaves, cardboard and fabric, while also learning about these two important creatures.
Being school holidays its fun to be out at night when there is no school on the next day, so why not check out our Arachnid adventures by Twilight.
Discover the fantastic world of spiders with our Spider ranger and learn about our furry friends.
Trek into the night to see how many different types you can find, and you’ll also get to meet some of our guide’s collection. We’ll be running tours both Mondays of the holidays.
