School visits
We often talk about young people as the environmental advocates of tomorrow, but they’ve shown us they are ready today. Let’s work side by side and build a better tomorrow.
We run a school program
Bring your classroom out to Jerrabomberra Wetlands. There are opportunities available for all age groups from playgroup age to tertiary students. Our programs focus on the cross-curriculum area of sustainability and STEM.
Learn about wildlife, water quality, First Nations culture, scientific monitoring, and environmental management.
Charges are $12 per student (includes GST).

Option 1:
Our primary age activity Bush & Water Bug Detectives is great for one or two classes visiting the wetlands. Students find and piece together clues animals have left behind to discover which critters inhabit the wetlands. Then, down at the ponds, they collect and identify water bugs - also known as macroinvertebrates. This method is used by aquatic ecologists across the globe to measure water quality.
Option 2: For large groups.
Bring the whole year group out for an overview of the whole wetland ecosystem in a Round Robin. We focus on the function of a wetland system, pollution, animal needs & habitats, the history of Canberra (both European and indigenous histories) & macroinvertebrate sampling. This program is for between 40 - 150 students.
Option 3: preschools & playgroups
Tales & Trails is a story time activity with a nature twist!
Let a Ranger take the little ones on a discovery trail around the wetlands, share some Australian picture books, and explore nature linked to the stories through hands-on activities.
